Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR)
The ADR Dangerous Goods Training Regulations require drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods to attend a training course at a Department for Transport Accredited Training Company and pass the appropriate SQA examination for the class of goods they are to transport by road. Once they have achieved this they will be issued with a vocational training certificate (ADR Licence). The vocational training certificate (ADR Licence) is valid for a period of 5 years and covers both UK and most European countries for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road.
Courses are available for drivers of Road Tankers, Tank Containers, Packaged Goods, and Explosives and are conducted throughout the country. They are also available to companies for in house training, however the venue must comply with the requirement of the awarding body.
Course module content:
1. Core Module
This contains information common to drivers of all vehicles including First Aid and Fire Fighting.
2. Tanker Module
Specialist module for drivers of road tankers or tank containers.
3. Packaged Goods Module
Specialist module for drivers of vehicles carrying packaged goods.
4. A series of specific classes.
Class 1 Explosive.
Class 2 Gases.
Class 3 Flammable Liquids.
Class 4 Flammable Solids.
Class 5 Oxidising Substances, Organic Peroxides.
Class 6 Toxic and Infectious Substances.
Class 7 Radioactives.
Class 8 Corrosives.
Class 9 Miscellaneous.
To obtain an ADR certificate, a driver must attend a minimum:
1. Core Module.
2. Either a Tanker or Packaged Goods Module.
3 At least one specialist class.
